Beyond Expectations
Sarah Rose Wants You To Know This
Episode notes
Listing Sarah Rose’s accolades is enough to make anyone feel a little sheepish about their own output into the world, but the Sydney-based disability advocate isn’t here to cover herself in glory. Sarah was born with the most common type of dwarfism, achondroplasia, but her disability has never held her back. Be it competing (three times) in the Paralympic Games, and winning a bronze medal in swimming, becoming a mum (twice now), or transferring the lessons she learnt as an athlete to the wider world of advocacy.
Sydney-based Rose uses her platforms - social media, a podcast and most recently a children’s book - to promote the visibility of, and understanding around, Australians living with a disability - which is something that affects one in five Aussies. Here, she shares how disability played into her - and society’s - expectations of fertility, falling pregnant via IVF and becoming a mum-of-two.
