The Ezra Miller controversy iceberg

Listen on

Episode notes

Ezra Miller was expected to be a queer blockbuster-movie star, a flower-child eccentric who lives in Vermont and plays The Flash, and an activist who stood up for gender-based violence and Indigenous communities from his beloved 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' beginnings in 2012, to his ascent to stardom in Hollywood. Instead, a new type of Ezra Miller emerged in the 2020s, who was accused of grooming an 18-year-old Sioux environmental activist - Tokata Iron Eyes - and was seen on camera physically assaulting a fan at a pub in Iceland. In a very short period of time, Miller went from being an indie favourite to receiving Harry Potter payments to supposedly being on the run with an 18-year-old.

In tonight's recodedpixels special, we examine the full history of his turn to violence, which resulted in him being shunned online and why his professional collaborations with Warner Brothers - as both The Flash in the DC Extended Universe, as well as Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts franchise - is in jeopardy, all whilst he runs a shoddily maintained Vermont farmhouse with vulnerable children, avoids his wanted status in two different states, and runs afoul of his wanted status in both of those states.
