The Early Years - What we wish we'd known

Episode notes

And we’re back…….! After our summer break we’re back and have an exciting new series for you – The Early Years.

This is all the stuff we wished we’d know before starting to conceive. The teenage years and you’re early 20’s are pretty scary times – It’s drummed in to us NOT to get pregnant and what you should do to avoid getting pregnant. We didn’t realise at that time, that our fertility is so finite.

Kate’s really passionate about empowering women to understand their cycle as research shows that time to conception is reduced with fertility awareness knowledge.

We discuss how best to monitor your cycle, the different methods available and in particular what works and what doesn’t! Kate talks about her pet hate – the fact that a normal cycle is often referred to as a 28 days cycle and that you ovulate on day 14. Women’s cycles vary hugely and can still be normal when shorter or longer than 28 days.

We talk about how it’s equally as important for men, as well as women, to consider their fertility health.

These include factors like protein shake use, alcohol, smoking and sexual health – we’ve got an awesome two part episode all about sexual health coming soon!

A little before our break we spoke to a lovely young lady called Abbie who froze her eggs prior to cancer treatment. Whilst this was necessary for Abbie due to her diagnosis, egg freezing is also available for women who may want to delay conceiving.

Natalie asks Kate for her thoughts on elective egg freezing.
